This amazing house was build in 2006 by Arquitectura Orgánica. A young couple with two children from Mexico City who after living in a conventional home wanted to change to one integrated to nature. The goal of this project was to make it feel like an internal inhabitant of a snail, like a mollusk moving from one chamber to another, like a symbiotic dweller of a huge fossil maternal cloister.

This looks very Gaudi-esque.

Looks similar to the Jelly Fish House, a model of which is now on view at SFMOMA as part of The Utopian Impulse: Buckminster Fuller and the Bay Area! The house pictured here is far more bejeweled, however :)

Next Friday’s CreativeMornings/Chicago speaker is Shawn “Shawnimal” Smith of Chicago-based design studio, Shawnimals. The above plushes are just a few of the plethora of characters that exist in their online shop.

Shawn founded Shawnimals with his wife and business partner Jen Brody in 2002. In the near decade since Shawnimals’ inception they have received international recognition for their unique designs and the original line of character-branded products they’ve spawned. Beginning with a handful of simple yet endearing handmade plush toys, based on designs from Smith’s own sketchbooks, Shawnimals has blossomed into a full-fledged company making significant contributions to the world of designer toys and beyond.
